Let’s set up a freebie in Flodesk! In this post, I’ll walk you through creating a workflow in Flodesk that will automatically deliver your freebie to subscribers who request it. To try Flodesk free for 30 days (and get 50% off of your first year), sign up using my link here

If you’ve seen much of my content about email marketing, you probably already know that I am a Flodesk enthusiast! I think this program is user-friendly, affordable, and has all of the capabilities I’m looking for as a business owner. Recently, they’ve implemented some new analytics features AND audience targeting capabilities that my team and I are loving.

Let’s get started!

Step 1: Create Your Freebie

The first thing you’ll need is an irresistible freebie that your audience can’t help but sign up for. I talk more about that topic in this YouTube video!

Your freebie might be a download, checklist, guide, quiz, video training or other! It’s a great way to entice people to join your email list, but your main goal should be to blow your subscribers away with how immensely packed with value your freebie is. Think of what your audiences both needs and wants to hear from you. Consider what topics already resonate well with your audience and how you can elaborate on that subject.

By the way – check out Flodesk’s new form option where you can create your own spinner! This is a fun way to not only invite users to join your list, but make it engaging, fun and memorable! Below, you’ll see an example using potential discounts the user might win. However, you could also use the spinner to award special free gifts. Find the option under “Forms” in Flodesk.

I’d love to share an example from my own business! A lot of my audience at Stephanie Kase wants to learn about marketing their business with reels. So, I created 10 free reels ideas complete with b-roll ideas, text boxes and captions. Here’s the link if you’d like to check out the process of seeing the opt-in, signing up and receiving the freebie!

Step 2: Create Your Delivery Email

Next, create your delivery email. This email should be short and sweet. Say hello, thanks for downloading, and show them exactly where to get their free gift. Today’s consumers are somewhat impatient – so don’t make them wait too long or look too hard for what you’ve already promised them.

Log in to your Flodesk account and navigate to “Emails” at the top of your screen. Select “New Email.”

Once you’ve created your email in Flodesk, add it to your favorites by clicking the heart on the left side of your screen. Name this email something specific to this freebie delivery.

Step 3: Create Your Workflow

Now comes the fun part! Once you’re logged into Flodesk, navigate to “Workflows” at the top of your screen. Select “New Workflow” to get started.

We’ll start with what the Trigger. What will start this sequence is someone being added to a segment. On the right side, make sure “a subscriber is added to segment” is selected from the dropdown box underneath “Begin this workflow when.”

Under “Choose segment,” you can create a new segment for this freebie delivery. Name the segment something specific to this freebie delivery. The examples below are from another one of my freebies, called the “YouTube Formula,” about how to make money using YouTube.

Under the first step, tap the plus sign and select “Create New Email.” Select from “Favorites” on the left side. Select the email you created earlier and added to your favorites.

Once you’ve made any necessary adjustments, head back to your workflow. With the email selected, add your subject line. Make it something that will stand out to your recipient such as, “Your Free Download is Ready!”

The final step in this workflow should read, “Exit: Subscribers will complete this workflow.” Or, you can elect to add them to a new segment.

Step 4: Create & Test Your Opt-in Form

Now, you’ll need a place for someone to opt into this freebie! Head to your navigation bar and select “Forms.”

Select “New Form.” On the left side of the screen, select which type of form you want to create. If you have a website already built, I recommend “Inline.” If not, I recommend, “Full page.”

Follow the prompts to customize your form so that it suits your brand! Below, you can see an example of the inline form format that we typically use.

Once you’ve finished your opt-in form, test the entire process. Sign up, check & proof your email, and open your freebie.

Step 5: Share it!

You’re ready to share your freebie using Flodesk!

Plus, once your freebie is live, Flodesk has some new features that simplify targeting your list! Below, you can see examples of some visual breakdowns Flodesk provides for forms, which show you exactly how your opt-ins are affecting your list over specific periods. We use this information to help us decide what the Stephanie Kase audience wants to learn from us, re-target our list with special offers or learn more about which platforms new users are discovering us on.

Plus, link actions are now available! If someone clicks a link in your email, Flodesk gives you the following capabilities to make re-targeting your list quick & easy. This is a newer feature that we are especially excited about. We can’t wait to take advantage of it in our next promotional period!
