Do you feel like you struggle to see sales conversions from your freebies? If you want to make your freebies convert into online sales, let’s talk about what needs to change.

The one thing that will make your freebies convert into online sales is to ensure your freebie directly relates to what you’re selling.
Example Freebie
Let’s suppose I was a dog trainer selling an online course about how to teach your dog to walk on a leash. That’s my paid offer. My freebie is “5 Things to Do to Keep Your Adult Dog Healthy.” The two do not correlate.
You’ll attract dog owners, but you have not gotten specific on what the dog owners struggle with. Likely, adult dog owners will grab your freebie (when what you would probably want is owners of new puppies). The focus is the health of the dog rather than its mannerisms, which misdirects the consumer on what they can expect from you.
A better alternative would be a download about the five secrets to make your dog stop pulling on their leash. The people opting into this freebie would be far more likely to take an interest in your course. Even if they don’t buy it immediately, you know they are interested in the kind of work that you’re doing.
Example Freebie from SK
A more specific example would be a personal illustration from SK! I offer a download called “10 Free Reels Ideas.” The download directly correlates to my paid offer, “Plug and Play Reels Ideas.” It’s the exact same thing. However, the paid offer includes 50+ more ideas than the free offer. When someone downloads the free version, they are immediately pitched a chance to upgrade.
It would NOT make sense to link my freebie, “Reels Cover Photo Templates” to the Plug & Play Reels Ideas. They’re both about Instagram, but they have very different end goals (branding your feed vs. creating engaging reels that will sell).
Benchmarks
Now, I’ll share a few conversion rates that are helpful benchmarks as you promote your freebie. Ideally, 30% of the people who view your freebie opt-in form will fill it out & subscribe. If you do are not seeing that many people opt-in, you might need to change the messaging of your freebie or adjust your content.
For paid offers, you want to see 1-3% of your email list converting into sales. During a live launch, you want to see that many people converting. Regarding a tripwire, out of every 100 downloads, you want to see 1-3 people purchase the upgrade.
Free Email Class
If you want to learn more, watch my free email class! It’s all about how to build a powerful email marketing plan to actually make money with the emails you send.
